A recent report from Business Insider Intelligence provides a thorough picture of the mobile industry and its incredible impact on virtually everything.  Some of these numbers are staggering to consider.  It's truthful to say that it truly is a mobile world.

•    Mobile use is at an all-time high.  How high?  20% of American consumers consume their media through mobile.  (For the record, mobile consists of smartphones and tablets.) According to the report, that 5x as much as 2009.

•    Through the first six months of 2013, tablet shipments have grown 83%, while PC shipments have dropped 13%.

•    Search from mobile sources is skyrocketing.  It now accounts for 26% of all local search traffic.  I have to admit that I thought it would be more.  Expect this number to continue to grow.

•    Consumers now spend as much time on mobile as they do their PC's and laptops.

•    Mobile-only users of Facebook have reached 219 million.  That accounts for almost 20% of their entire user base.  Now does it make sense why it was so imperative to monetize their mobile platform?

The future of mobile looks as strong as the recent past.  People are not only watching more video on mobile devices, but they are watching it for longer stretches at a time.  The lesson for marketers is clear.

With the growing importance of mobile comes additional opportunities to reach your target audience.  Keep your eyes open for ways to channel your message to your mobile-using customers.
