Microsoft released its cloud-based Office 365 and it continues a trend where Microsoft moves away from one-time big charges for the Office Suite of products to more of a “pay as you go” system.  The pricing plans announced on February 28, 2013 go like this:

•    Office 365 ProPlus: $144 for an annual subscription
•    Office 365 Midsize Business: $180 annual subscription
•    Office 365 Small Business:  $150 annual subscription

This announcement raises some interesting thoughts to ponder for Microsoft.  First, the announcement seems to indicate that updates to the product will be far more frequent than in the past.  This is a good thing, and it puts them much more in line with what others in technology are doing.

These prices also include other-device installations such as cell phones and other employee hardware.  With the increase in employee accessibility after hours, additional device installations become more important.
