Last year, Virgin Mobile introduced the $30 a month iPhone 4 plan to great fanfare and success.  Basically, you pay for the phone up front (approximately$649) and get a much reduced monthly lease charge.  The plan for the iPhone 5 (beginning June 28, 2013) will go like this, according to Gigaom.com:

"Virgin is billing the service as an unlimited data and texting plan with 300 voice minutes.  Unlimited means 2.5 GB of CDMA or LTE data each month, after which your speeds are throttled down. Also the $30 plan requires you to sign up for Virgin’s Auto Pay service, which automatically charges your monthly bill to a credit card, debit card or PayPal account."

Other carriers and retailers are offering iPhone 5 discounts in anticipation of a new model being released in the fall or early winter.
